How a round die gives a fair roll.
What are spherical dice?
Spherical dice are RPG dice shaped as perfect balls instead of polyhedra. From the outside every Orbidice has the same shape; what makes one a D6 and another a D20 is the number of chambers inside and the numerals engraved over them. A set covers every die a tabletop roleplaying game needs — a two-sided D2 coin, D4, D6, D8, D10, D100, D12 and D20 — so it replaces a standard polyhedral set in any system that uses them, from d20 fantasy to percentile horror.
Are spherical dice fair?
Fairness comes from the chambers, not the outer shape. Inside each sphere a polished steel ball moves freely while the die rolls. As it slows, the ball drops into one of the equally sized chambers in the shell, which stops the sphere with a single numeral facing straight up. Every chamber is the same size, so every result has the same chance — the same odds as a well-made polyhedral die, checked across thousands of test rolls.
Spherical vs. polyhedral dice
A polyhedral die stops because its edges and corners catch on the table. A sphere has none, so Orbidice relies on its weighted core instead: the dice roll smoothly, stop within about a hand's width instead of bouncing off the table, and read exactly like the dice you know — the number on top is your result.
Designed and made in Poland
Orbidice was created by a small studio in Kraków and funded in 2021 by 9,115 Kickstarter backers. Each 25 mm sphere is cast in resin around its steel core, the numerals are engraved and inked by hand, and every set is checked one sphere at a time before it ships in its magnetic presentation case.

Each sphere is 25 mm across — a touch larger than a standard D20 — so they sit naturally in a dice tray, a cup or your hand.

The numerals are engraved and filled, not printed, so normal play does not wear them. Keep the spheres away from solvents and direct heat.
